Terms of Service – Alter Ego Beds

1. About These Terms

These Terms of Service govern your use of the Alter Ego Beds website and any purchase made from Alter Ego Beds.

By placing an order with us, you agree to these Terms together with our Refund, Cancellation & Returns Policy, Privacy Policy and any other policies referenced during checkout.

Please read these Terms carefully before placing an order.

Nothing within these Terms affects your statutory consumer rights.

2. About Alter Ego Beds

Alter Ego Beds designs and supplies made-to-order solid wood bed frames, furniture, accessories and associated products.

Our bed frames are designed and made to order in the United Kingdom.

Throughout these Terms:

“Alter Ego Beds”, “we”, “our” and “us” refer to Alter Ego Beds.

“Customer” and “you” refer to the person placing an order with us.

“Product” refers to any bed frame, accessory, component or other item purchased from Alter Ego Beds.

3. Age Requirement

You must be at least 18 years old, or the applicable age of majority within your jurisdiction, to purchase products from Alter Ego Beds.

Our dual-purpose products and their associated features are intended exclusively for consenting adults.

By purchasing from Alter Ego Beds, you confirm that you meet the applicable age requirement.

4. Placing an Order

When placing an order, you are responsible for ensuring that all information provided is complete and accurate.

This includes:

• Bed and mattress size

• Product dimensions

• Wood finish

• Product configuration

• Hardware and accessory choices

• Billing information

• Delivery address

• Email address

• Telephone number

Please carefully check your order before completing checkout.

Submitting an order does not necessarily mean that we have accepted it. We reserve the right to decline or cancel an order where there is a legitimate reason for doing so.

Once your order has been accepted, it will be allocated into our made-to-order production schedule.

5. Made-to-Order Production

Every Alter Ego Bed is made to order in the UK.

We aim to complete production within approximately 2–3 weeks from the date your order is placed.

This is an estimated production timeframe rather than a guaranteed completion or delivery date.

Production times may occasionally vary due to current order volumes, material availability, quality control requirements, manufacturing circumstances or other factors affecting production.

Where there is a significant change to the expected production timeframe, we will make reasonable efforts to keep you informed.

6. Product Specifications & Natural Timber

Our bed frames are manufactured using natural timber.

Wood is a natural material and variations in grain, knots, texture, shade and tone should be expected. These characteristics are part of the individual appearance of solid wood and are not necessarily manufacturing defects.

Product photographs are intended to provide an accurate representation of our products. However, natural materials may vary between individual products and colours may also appear differently depending on lighting, photography and screen settings.

Product dimensions and specifications are provided on our product pages.

Customers are responsible for checking that their selected bed size and dimensions are suitable for their mattress, bedroom and intended location before ordering.

7. Customer Ordering Errors

Customers are responsible for selecting the correct product, size, finish and configuration when placing an order.

If you discover an error, please contact us immediately.

Where production has not begun, we will make reasonable efforts to amend your order.

Once production has started, we may be unable to change the size, finish, configuration or specification.

Where Alter Ego Beds has correctly manufactured and supplied the product selected by the customer, an incorrect selection by the customer will be considered a customer ordering error rather than an incorrect product supplied by Alter Ego Beds.

Where we agree to accept a return resulting from a customer ordering error, the customer may be responsible for the associated return transportation costs where permitted by applicable law.

Store credit towards a replacement frame in the correct configuration may be offered following receipt and inspection of the returned product.

8. Pricing

Prices are displayed in the applicable currency for the market in which you are shopping.

The total amount payable will be displayed during checkout before your order is completed.

UK orders include applicable UK VAT.

For orders delivered outside the United Kingdom, UK VAT will not normally apply. We aim to ship international orders on a Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) basis wherever this service is available.

Where an order is shipped DDP, Alter Ego Beds will cover the applicable import duties, taxes and customs charges associated with the normal import and customs clearance process. Customers should therefore not normally be required to pay additional import duties or taxes upon delivery.

International shipping charges, where applicable, will be displayed at checkout.

In destinations where DDP shipping is not available, we will make this clear and advise the customer of any potential additional charges or requirements.

We make reasonable efforts to ensure pricing displayed on our website is accurate.

Where an obvious pricing, technical or listing error has occurred, we reserve the right to cancel the affected order. Where this happens, amounts paid for products that will not be supplied will be refunded.

9. Payment

Payment must be made using one of the payment methods available through our checkout.

You are responsible for providing accurate and authorised payment information.

Where staged payment or another payment arrangement is expressly offered, the applicable payment schedule will be communicated as part of the order.

Failure to complete an agreed payment may delay production or result in cancellation of the order where permitted by applicable law and the agreed payment terms.

10. UK Delivery

UK delivery is free unless otherwise stated at checkout.

For UK customers, we aim to manufacture and deliver your Alter Ego Bed within approximately 2–3 weeks from the date of order wherever possible.

Delivery dates and lead times are estimates unless we have expressly agreed otherwise.

Customers are responsible for providing accurate delivery information and ensuring reasonable access is available to receive the product.

11. International Delivery

International shipping is charged separately and calculated at checkout.

International delivery times are additional to our stated production timeframe.

Our typical estimated delivery times following completion of production are:

• Europe: approximately 5–7 additional days

• USA: approximately 10–14 additional days

• Canada: approximately 10–14 additional days

These delivery times are estimates and are not guaranteed.

International deliveries may be affected by customs clearance, carriers, ports, border authorities, local delivery networks, weather or other circumstances outside our reasonable control.

12. International Duties, Taxes & Customs

We aim to ship international orders on a Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) basis wherever this service is available.

Where an order is shipped DDP, Alter Ego Beds will cover the applicable import duties, taxes and customs charges associated with the normal import and customs clearance process. Customers should therefore not normally be required to pay additional import duties or taxes upon delivery.

Customers remain responsible for providing accurate information and cooperating with the carrier or relevant customs authorities where reasonably required to complete customs clearance and delivery.

In some destinations or exceptional circumstances, DDP shipping may not be available. Where an order cannot be shipped DDP, we will make this clear and advise the customer of any potential additional charges or requirements.

13. Refused International Deliveries

Customers are responsible for accepting delivery and cooperating with the carrier and customs authorities where reasonably required to complete customs clearance and delivery.

If an international shipment is refused, abandoned or returned because the customer:

• Refuses delivery

• Provides incorrect or incomplete delivery information

• Fails to provide information reasonably required for customs clearance

• Fails to cooperate with the carrier or customs authorities

• Fails to respond to reasonable contact attempts from the carrier or customs authorities

Alter Ego Beds may, where permitted by applicable law, recover or deduct reasonable costs arising as a result.

These costs may include return transportation, storage charges, additional customs or clearance charges, carrier fees, redelivery costs and other reasonable costs incurred in recovering or returning the shipment.

Where a refund is due, any permitted deductions will be made before the remaining balance is refunded.

14. Delivery Access

Our bed frames are substantial pieces of furniture.

Customers are responsible for ensuring that the product can reasonably be delivered to its intended location.

Please consider:

• Doorways

• Hallways

• Staircases

• Lifts

• Entrances

• Access roads

• Other property restrictions

before ordering.

If delivery cannot be completed because incorrect information was supplied, reasonable access was unavailable or the customer failed to accept an arranged delivery, additional delivery, storage, return or redelivery charges may apply where permitted by law.

15. Assembly

Alter Ego Bed frames require assembly.

Customers must follow the assembly video instructions provided and ensure that all components and fixings are correctly installed before use.

If you are unsure whether you can safely assemble the product, we recommend seeking assistance from a competent person.

The product should not be used where it has been incorrectly assembled, damaged or where structural components or fixings are missing.

16. Intended Use

The Alter Ego Bed is first and foremost a functional, high-quality bed frame designed for sleeping and normal domestic use.

Certain Alter Ego Beds also incorporate discreet dual-purpose features intended for optional adult use.

Any alternative use of these features must be undertaken responsibly and only with the informed and freely given consent of every person involved.

Customers are responsible for using the product responsibly and in accordance with supplied instructions and safety guidance.

The product must never be used for unlawful or non-consensual activities.

17. Consent & Adult Use

Consent is fundamental to any alternative use of our products.

Any use involving restraint or another person must involve informed, freely given and continuing consent from every participant.

Consent can be withdrawn at any time.

Alter Ego Beds does not endorse or authorise non-consensual, coercive, unlawful or unsafe use of its products.

Our products do not replace communication, judgement, supervision or appropriate safety precautions.

No feature should be used in a manner intended to prevent someone from communicating or withdrawing consent.

18. Safe Use

Customers are responsible for using Alter Ego Beds products responsibly and for assessing whether a particular activity or use is appropriate.

Products should not be used in a way that:

• Exceeds their intended purpose

• Places unreasonable loads on components

• Creates a foreseeable risk of injury

• Involves damaged or incorrectly installed components

• Contradicts supplied safety or assembly instructions

The bed and its components should be inspected periodically.

Use should stop immediately if structural damage, loose components, excessive movement or another safety concern is identified.

Alter Ego Beds is not responsible for loss or damage caused solely by misuse, unauthorised modification, incorrect assembly or failure to follow supplied instructions.

Nothing within these Terms excludes or restricts liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.

19. Five-Year Limited Warranty

Every Alter Ego Bed frame is supplied with a 5-Year Limited Warranty from the date of delivery.

The warranty covers manufacturing defects affecting the structural bed frame and qualifying defects in materials or workmanship arising during normal and intended use.

The warranty does not normally cover damage resulting from:

• Incorrect assembly or installation

• Misuse or abuse

• Accidental or deliberate damage

• Unauthorised modifications or repairs

• Use outside the product's intended purpose

• Failure to follow supplied assembly, care or safety instructions

• Normal wear and tear

• Cosmetic changes caused by the natural ageing of timber

• Natural variations in wood grain, knots, colour, texture or tone

• Inappropriate storage

• Excessive moisture or unsuitable environmental conditions

• Damage occurring during transportation or relocation arranged by the customer after the original delivery has been completed

If you believe your product has developed a fault covered by the warranty, please contact us with your order number and photographs or video demonstrating the issue.

Where a valid warranty claim is confirmed, Alter Ego Beds will provide an appropriate remedy.

Depending on the nature of the issue, this may include replacement components, repair or replacement of the affected product.

Our 5-Year Limited Warranty is provided in addition to your statutory consumer rights and does not replace, restrict or exclude those rights.

20. Faulty, Damaged or Incorrect Products

If you believe your product is faulty, damaged, not as described or different from the product you ordered, please contact us as soon as reasonably possible.

We may request photographs, video, packaging photographs or other reasonable information to help us identify and resolve the issue.

Depending on the circumstances and applicable consumer law, an appropriate remedy may include repair, replacement components, replacement of the product or refund.

21. Returns, Refunds & Cancellations

Returns, refunds, cancellations, customer ordering errors and associated return transportation costs are governed by our Refund, Cancellation & Returns Policy.

Nothing within that policy or these Terms affects statutory consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded or restricted.

22. Alter Ego Beds' Right to Cancel an Order

Alter Ego Beds reserves the right to cancel an order where there is a legitimate reason preventing us from reasonably fulfilling it.

This may include:

• Material or component unavailability

• Manufacturing circumstances preventing production

• An obvious pricing, product or website error

• Suspected fraudulent or unauthorised transactions

• Delivery restrictions

• Failure by the customer to provide information reasonably required to manufacture or deliver the order

• Failure to complete an agreed payment arrangement

• Abusive, threatening or unlawful behaviour towards our employees, contractors, manufacturers or delivery partners

• Circumstances outside our reasonable control preventing us from fulfilling the order

Where Alter Ego Beds cancels an order before the goods have been supplied, amounts paid for products that will no longer be supplied will be refunded to the original payment method, except where applicable law permits otherwise.

23. Events Outside Our Reasonable Control

We will not be responsible for delays or failure to perform an obligation where this results from circumstances outside our reasonable control.

These may include:

• Severe weather

• Natural disasters

• War or civil unrest

• Industrial action

• Transport disruption

• Port or border closures

• Customs delays

• Government action

• Supply chain disruption

• Material shortages

• Failure of essential third-party infrastructure or services

Where such circumstances materially affect an order, we will make reasonable efforts to communicate with the customer and minimise disruption.

Nothing within this section removes rights available to consumers under applicable law.

24. No Medical Claims

Alter Ego Beds products are furniture products.

They are not medical devices and are not intended to diagnose, prevent, treat or cure any medical, physical, psychological or sexual condition.

Alter Ego Beds makes no medical or therapeutic claims regarding the use of its products.

25. Website Information

We make reasonable efforts to ensure that information displayed on our website is accurate and current.

Product descriptions, specifications, photographs, pricing and availability may be updated from time to time.

Changes made after an order has been accepted will not retrospectively alter the agreed terms of that order unless agreed with the customer or required by law.

26. Intellectual Property

The Alter Ego Beds name, branding, product designs, registered designs, website content, photographs, videos, graphics and other intellectual property are owned by or licensed to Alter Ego Beds unless otherwise stated.

They may not be copied, reproduced, commercially exploited, manufactured, distributed or used without appropriate permission.

Purchasing an Alter Ego Beds product does not transfer ownership of any intellectual property rights associated with the product or its design.

27. Privacy & Personal Information

Personal information is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable data protection law.

Information may be shared with manufacturing partners, payment providers, delivery companies, customs agents and other service providers where reasonably necessary to process, manufacture and fulfil your order.

28. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes to our products, services, business operations or legal obligations.

The Terms applicable to an order will normally be those in effect when that order is placed.

Changes made to these Terms will not retrospectively remove contractual or statutory rights relating to an existing order.

29. Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

If you are a consumer living outside England and Wales, you may also benefit from mandatory consumer protections provided by the laws applicable within your country or jurisdiction.

Nothing within these Terms is intended to prevent a consumer from exercising rights relating to jurisdiction, dispute resolution or consumer protection that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.

30. Severability

If any provision within these Terms is found to be invalid, unlawful or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to apply to the fullest extent permitted by law.
